Before we moved to Kettering I remember driving "way out into the country" to eat in our car at the Yum Yum. This was while you were living above the restaurant and before we became neighbors. You had a tire swing hanging from a large tree behind the building and I wanted to get out of the car and swing on that swing. Of course my parents wouldn't let me.

My entire family loved eating at The Inn. The butterscotch rolls were a favorite of ours. Yummy!

One of my favorite visits to The Yum Yum Inn was for a birthday party for Barb. We had no fast food or pizza places that did childrens' parties in those days. No one had birthday parties in restaurants. For Barbara's birthday a group of girls got to go to the Inn, go into the kitchen and make our own sundaes. How fun and very special that was!!!

The restaurant was the setting for many special occasions for my family. I'll always cherish those memories.

We moved to Oakwood when I was 7. My parents loved to go to Yum Yum for Sunday lunch. My standard order was: Chicken in a Basket. I have loved meringue to this date and every visit yearned to order baked Alaska. My mother's precondition was always that I must finish my plate before even thinking about ordering dessert. Chicken in a Basket was always most filling, if delicious. Finishing was always a problem for me as a skinny kid. One Sunday I was determined to have dessert though I knew I did not have a quarter inch of room left in my stomach. This huge dessert was placed in front of me which I started and my dad finished. But I had gone from full to overloaded. We went home, I ran upstairs and tossed my cookies!! I never ordered Baked Alaska again.

We grew up with YumYum and have many happy memories of the food and restaurant. In fact, in July of 1960, my husband to be and our family were dining at the YumYum when a big decision was made. Hank and I were living in New York at the time and we were in Dayton for my family to get to know him. I had bought my wedding dress and chose not to have it sent because we were leaving the next day for Clover, SC to visit Hank's Dad. While we were all seated around the dinner table, my Dad stated that he thought it made a whole lot more sense for us all to go the Clover the next day and have the wedding there instead of all the family traveling to New York in the Fall. My cousin was living in Florida and she was my Maid of Honor and my brother was Best Man. It was a lot closer for her to travel to SC instead of NY. I still have the dime we used to make the call to Hank's Dad. Needless to say, it was a good idea. We were married in York, SC which had a 24 hour waiting period. This was 47 years ago this July 11th.

In 1956 my husband and I met and began dating. We loved going to the "Yum Yum" to eat on our dates. We would usually eat in our car. We were engaged in 1958 and on November 27, 1959 we had our Wedding Rehearsal Dinner in the Terrace Room at the "Yum Yum". The next day was the Wedding Day. We have lots of fond memories of the "Yum Yum". Thanks for the great Cookbook Beverly, we are enjoying it already.

As a child my parents and I ate at the Yum Yum on several occasions. When it came time to choose a place for the rehearsal dinner for our wedding party, we decided that the Yum Yum was special to our family. That event occured on Friday evening, Dec 16, 1966. We have now been happily married for 41 years, and have many fond memories of Kettering. Thanks for your effort. We will enjoy the recipes.

I have a very fond memory of selling Girl Scout cookies with Barbara (Schelly) in the Yum Yum's front lobby. It was a treat being there, getting to run in the kitchen and to see all the food preparation. Afterwards, Barbara's parents made sure we got to have dinner , quite a treat for two 10 year olds!
