Welcome to Schelly's Inn 

 

Our parents Vernon and Dorothy Schellhase known to most as Schelly & Dotti had a "Dream".  They wanted to own a friendly family style restaurant.  Daddy's parents Henry & Stella helped them purchase an old farm house and land for $18,000 that was for sale on Far Hills Ave.  That was a big loan in the 1940's since daddy only made $29 a week working at NCR in the Treasury Dept plus weekends at Goody - Goody restaurant on Salem Ave.  Mother worked at Rikes downtown in food service.  A friend of daddy's who worked with him at NCR told me everyone discouraged them from taking such a big risk.

 

The Journey begins as they transform the farm house into their "Dream" and move their residence upstairs over the restaurant.

 

My "Dream" has been to take those great meals you enjoyed as a customer and publish a cookbook so they now can be served in your home.
